As summer is quickly fading for students, back to school supply shopping creeps into everyone’s minds. Unfortunately for a lot of families in surrounding communities, purchasing supplies comes with a financial burden.
To help relieve that burden for families in local communities is why MKC is stepping in and helping others in need. This year, MKC is hosting a school supply drive for schools across their footprint, focusing on middle school aged children.

Staff Accountant Holly Herman said, “We, as a committee, decided on a school supply drive because many families in our footprint struggle with school costs and providing supplies needed for their children. We chose to focus on middle school because this age group is often overlooked, as the items needed are tailored to each class and school.”

Starting July 1, MKC is partnering with surrounding schools to provide local families in need with back to school supplies. Some are for individual students, although some schools have lists containing items for groups or classrooms to share as well. Items being collected include: backpacks, notebooks, binders, calculators, folders, lined paper, pencils, pens, sharpies, crayons, markers, highlighters, glue sticks, tape, paper clips, hand sanitizer, tissues as well as gift cards to Target, Michaels and Staples. The supply drive will run starting July 1 through August 2.

When stopping in at MKC locations, be on the lookout for donation tin cans as well as flyers containing lists for the participating school(s). Monetary and gift card donations are acceptable and very much appreciated.

“At MKC we are focused on “Shared growth. Shared success.”, so if we, as a company and community, can help children succeed by donating much needed supplies, then we will be making a difference in the communities we live and work in, Herman said.  “We are excited about this new opportunity to give back, and hope our employees, as well as our customers, will help local students and schools start the year with the supplies they need to be successful.
