The MKC internship program is like no other, as college students cultivate technical and professional skills while making a real contribution to the company each summer (typically the last week of May through the first week of August). If your goal is a real world, hands-on internship in America’s heartland, look no further.

At MKC, interns are mentored by our leaders  throughout the program and given the opportunity to work on projects that make a real impact on our cooperative.

GRAIN ACCOUNTING INTERN

You will gain experience within both our accounting and inventory areas. You will learn the systems we use to track sales to ensure we have what customers need, how our teams work together to guarantee accurate billing and how we use the information within those systems to make decisions.

To be successful in this internship, applicants should have great attention to detail, enjoy solving problems, both written and verbal communication skills and be eager to learn.

Summer projects frequently focus on process improvements to better serve both our external customers and our employees.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

You will gain experience in sharing MKC’s execution of our mission, vision and values with our customers as well as our employees. You will assist with the layout, design and writing of our newsletter and other publications, as well as content generation and social media postings.

 To be successful in this internship, applicants should have great attention to detail and be willing to try new things and be creative. Being comfortable having professional conversation in-person and over the phone is a key to success as well.

 Summer projects frequently focus on designing and updating communication pieces and building our annual meeting materials.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT INTERN

The Application Development Intern will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge such as analysis, development and testing, problem solving and teamwork in a professional setting working alongside the Manager of Application Development. You will develop reports, participate in User X analysis, research new technical topics and in addition, you will have the opportunity to partner with other IT professionals to learn more about a variety of disciplines within Information Technology.

To be successful in this internship, applicants should have knowledge and understanding of application development concepts and theory, skills of problem-solving and critical thinking, ability to prioritize competing requirements in a fast-paced environment, a desire for continuous learning and improvement and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Summer projects frequently focus on researching ways to improve the flow of information through the organization that can push forward our digital transformation and make it easier for our customers to do business.

AGRICULTURE SALES INTERN

You will spend your summer gaining experience in how MKC utilizes technology platforms in decision making activities for production agriculture. You will learn valuable agronomy knowledge while collecting data, updating and tracking progression of growing season to ensure successful use of these technology platforms for our farmer owners. Tissue sampling, data management and participation in special projects around water management will be a part of your role. You will have the opportunity to interact and assist our farmer/owners maximize productivity and profitability by being on the leading edge of agriculture technology.

 To be successful in this role, applicants should be motivated, eager to learn and try new things while working alongside decision ag consultants and farmer owners. Excellent attention to detail, willingness to learn more about technology, and the desire to work independently at times are requirements for this role.

 Summer projects frequently focus on evaluating new tools and assessing the benefits provided to MKC and our farmer owners.

ENERGY SALES INTERN

The Energy Sales and Operations Intern will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge such as analysis, problem solving and teamwork in a professional setting. In addition, the Intern will have the opportunity to learn about MKC’s partners in the agricultural industry, build a network of agricultural professionals and other interns, grow personal skills in project design, project management and professional presentations.

 The Energy Sales and Operations Intern will work closely with the team at the MKC’s McPherson Energy location assisting walk in customers with purchases, pickups and orders, participate in sales calls to customers on farm and support operations and logistics. Interns are an important part of our team and are given significant responsibility and opportunities to do meaningful and impactful work for our organization.

 To be successful in this role, applicants should desire to learn more about operations and logistics, be able to prioritize competing requirements in a fast-paced environment, have a desire for continuous learning and improvement and have strong verbal and written communication skills.

 Summer projects frequently focus on identifying and testing different ways to improve efficiency of customer service and ease of doing business for our customers.

GENERAL OPERATIONS INTERN

You will be located at one of our larger locations and gain experience in all aspects of the cooperative’s role in grain production. You will learn the entire agronomy and grain handling chain from the seed being planted in the field to the grain moving to one of our many end users. You will have the opportunity to interact with and assist our farmer/owners who we help deliver a safe food supply to the world.

 Excellent communication, willingness to take initiative and desire to be a part of a team are requirements for this role. To be successful in this role, applicants should be motivated, eager to learn and try new things and enjoy working at a fast paced in a team environment.

 Summer projects frequently focus on improving customer service, safety, and finding innovative ways to be efficient.

GRAIN OPERATIONS INTERN

This internship will be located at one of our state-of-the-art train loaders. You will gain experience in grain handling, mixing/blending, dumping/loading trucks, loading trains as well as monitoring and maintaining grain for quality.

To be successful at this internship, you need to enjoy working at a quick pace, have good computer skills, strong work ethic and flexibility in the fluid environment of a train loader.

Summer projects will focus on how we can continuously improve processes we use during daily work.
