Title: Operations Intern
Location: Lindsborg, Kansas
Hometown: Shawnee, Kansas
College: Kansas State University

Why did you choose to pursue an internship with MKC/TMA?
I chose to pursue an internship with MKC because I wanted to learn more about the agricultural industry. MKC was also a great opportunity to get some in-the-field training.
What does a day in the life of an MKC/TMA intern in your role look like?
Each morning I arrive in Lindsborg at 7:00 a.m. The first thing we do is the morning safety topic meeting. Throughout the day, I do an assortment of jobs like running parts or fuel to sprayers in the field or delivering seed or other products to customers or MKC locations. I also help in the seed flat with treating seed and loading customers with the product that they need. Once all the tender drivers come back at the end of the day, I help load the trucks with the herbicides and chemicals needed for the next day.
What has been the most exciting or interesting thing you’ve learned so far?
I have really enjoyed learning how to give recommendations to farmers on what chemicals they should spray to increase their chances of having a great stand. I have also really enjoyed learning how the elevator operates, from grading grain to segregating it by the specs.

What is one thing you have learned in your college education that you’ve been able to apply to your experience this summer?
I have been able to use some knowledge from my crop science class to help figure out how each chemical works differently on each crop and why that happens.
What have you gained from your internship experience that you will carry with you in the future?
I have learned from my mentor and from other managers at the Lindsborg location how to be a great manager and leader. I think that is one of the most valuable things I have learned so far this summer.
