Why did you choose to pursue an internship with MKC/TMA?
I chose to intern with MKC with hopes to broaden my experience in the agricultural field. I saw the cooperative as a great learning ground. I also heard a former intern speak highly of the program, which really drew me to MKC.
What does a day in the life of an MKC/TMA intern in your role look like?
On the grain side, I load and unload trucks and perform elevator upkeep. Prior to harvest, I made sure the facility was prepared. Through this internship I’ve had the opportunity to work with several different departments, so each day is never the same. My day can vary from loading spray rigs, to checking fields, or even working in the feed mill.

What has been the most exciting or interesting thing you’ve learned so far?
The most interesting learning opportunity I’ve had was with the feed department. Getting to work inside the feed mill and shadowing a sales position allowed me to see every step of the process. I did everything from meeting with customers, placing an order, making and sacking the feed, right down to learning the different ways we deliver the final product and follow up with customers to ensure they’re satisfied. I’m thankful that MKC provides opportunities for interns to learn about positions they are interested in that might be outside the position they were hired for.
What is one thing you have learned in your college education that you’ve been able to apply to your experience this summer?
In school I learned about computer programs that have aided in my summer project, alongside communication skills with customers and coworkers.

What have you gained from your internship experience that you will carry with you in the future?
I have gained valuable industry connections through my internship. Having the opportunity to meet and work alongside so many different areas of this company has allowed me to see firsthand the high-quality employees MKC has.
