Employees Host Annual Food Drive to Help Fight Hunger

Mar 31, 2017

The statistics for food insecure homes in Kansas are staggering. According to a study released March 31, 2016, by Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, one in seven people struggles with hunger.

Throughout the month of April, MKC employees are joining together to help fill the shelves of area food banks through their sixth annual food drive.

“We know supplies for area food banks can be stressed during the summer, so we want to help in the effort to help get the shelves stocked,” said Carrie Briscoe, co-chair of the MKC Community Involvement Committee and McPherson Energy AFD account manager.  “Through a collective effort, we can make a meaningful difference for so many families in our area.”

Last year, MKC employees collected 2,467 pounds of food. “As the food drive rolls around again in April, be thinking of how you can help. From asking your neighbors to bring over a few cans to calling local stores and asking them to donate food, any task you do can help feed a family or child in need. Food instability is a present issue in many communities, and we can help fight it.,” Briscoe said.

MKC employees invite the public to join them in their food drive by dropping off non-perishable food items at any MKC location by April 30.
