MKC Employees Host Annual Food Drive

4/4/2018

MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. – The statistics for food insecure homes in Kansas are staggering. According to a study released in March 2016 by Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, one in seven people struggles with hunger.

Throughout April, MKC employees are joining together to help fill the shelves of area food banks through their sixth annual food drive. This year, MKC is challenging locations to collect ten pounds of items per employee.

“MKC is a part of so many different communities across our footprint in so many different ways. We strive to provide much more than products, programs and services,” said Lamont Turcotte, plant manager at the Groveland location and MKC Community Involvement Committee member. “We feel like it is our role to be there for the community when they need us. Our Food Drive efforts are just one way we can help out people in need.”

Last year, MKC employees collected 3,448 pounds of food. “We called local food banks to ask what they are in dire need of and they requested items such as detergent, shampoo, body soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and non-perishable food,” said Turcotte. “Any donation is acceptable and greatly appreciated.”

The MKC Community Involvement Committee invites everyone to join them in their 2018 Food Drive by dropping off items at any full-time MKC location by April 30.
