MKC, Cooperative Grain and Supply Begin Unification Study

Jun 10, 2016

In a continued effort to strengthen the cooperative system and seek methods to bring additional value to their members, Cooperative Grain and Supply has selected MKC to begin a study with to determine what opportunities may exist through a unification of the two cooperatives.
Jim Enns, board chairperson for CG&S, says with MKC as their neighbor plus the history in being partners in both Team Marketing Alliance, LLC and Countryside Feed, LLC, MKC seemed the most logical choice to do a unification study to see what the best option is for their members.  “We are looking forward to working with the MKC Board and management as we discuss our future,” Enns says.

“We commend CG&S for their foresight and innovation to initiate this study of the mutual benefits which can be achieved by merging the strengths of our two cooperatives,” says CJ Blew, board chairperson, MKC. “MKC has a long history of investigating mergers with many partners. These studies have ultimately made MKC a stronger organization to provide more benefit to the combined organizations’ customers."

For many years, MKC and CG&S have operated  their feed and grain divisions jointly. TMA was created to merchandise grain together in 2000 for four cooperatives. Countryside Feed, LLC, located in Hillsboro, is the feed production LLC for four cooperates.

“We seek to uncover the best in both organizations so all patrons and employees will benefit,” Blew says. “MKC firmly believes we are better together, and we hope the members of CG&S will come to the same conclusion.”

Cooperative Grain and Supply is a farmer's co-op with administrative offices in Hillsboro, Kansas offering services, grain storage, crop protection and more to customers in the area. CG&S was incorporated on May 1, 1966, as a result of four co-ops merging. Over the years, CG&S has made many changes. The storage capacity has grown from 1,267,225 in 1966 to the present capacity of 4,033,800 bushels. For more information, go to
