Beginning January 1, livestock producers will have new federal rules to follow when feeding their animals. The Food and Drug Administration will require a Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) for all medically important antibiotics administered in feed and a veterinary prescription for all medically important antibiotics used in water. A VFD is a written statement issued by a licensed veterinarian that authorizes use of a VFD drug in or on animal feed.
A local group of young producers learned how they can play a crucial role in helping agriculture and the cooperative system thrive by attending the CHS New Leaders Forum with MKC.

MKC was listed No. 69 in the United States Department of Agriculture’s annual rankings of the nation’s Top 100 Largest Agricultural Cooperatives. MKC’s spot at 69 was the highest ranking for a Kansas cooperative. According to the USDA, the data is part of a forthcoming report, set for release later this month.
