3,200 Pounds of Food Collected During MKC Food Drive

Throughout April, MKC employees banded together with the help of member-owners, vendors, community members and more to help fill the shelves of area food banks through the sixth annual MKC Food Drive. This year, the MKC Community Involvement Committee challenged locations to collect ten pounds of items per employee.
 
Each participating location collected over 40 pounds of food that was donated to their local food bank. Six locations collected over 100 pounds of food to donate which included Walton, Peabody, Lindsborg, Manhattan, McPherson Energy, Moundridge and Groveland.
 
The Groveland location donated the most pounds of non-perishable food and personal items per employee. They collected 62 pounds per employee or 1,556 pounds total. The items collected by the Groveland location were delivered to the Inman Food Bank and the McPherson County Food Bank.
 
In total, MKC employees collected 3,228 pounds of food for local communities across their footprint. MKC also accepted monetary donations during April and collected $384 to donate as well.

Since 2013, MKC has provided monetary donations to food banks in partnership with the Land O’ Lakes, Inc. Foundation. This year, MKC committed more than $19,000 to community food banks in 13 communities including El Dorado, Newton, Hutchinson, Salina, McPherson, Abilene, Lyons, Marion, Manhattan, Westmoreland, Council Grove, Minneapolis and Wellington.

Groveland Location Manager Adam Butler says the Food Drive is a team effort. “We are often so caught up in our everyday responsibilities, and projects like the MKC Food Drive give us an opportunity to get out in the community and make a difference,” Butler says. “We can always see first-hand the impact we are making when we show up to the food banks and see the smile on the workers faces and get to hear the stories about the impact that the donations have on so many of these community members.”
