Title: Operations Intern
Location: Canton Terminal
Hometown: Argonia, KS
College: Kansas State University

Why did you choose to pursue an internship with MKC/TMA?
I heard that past interns had great experiences with the MKC/TMA internship program. People told me MKC internship program is amazing and now that I’ve experienced it for myself, I know they were right.

What does a day in the life of an MKC/TMA intern in your role look like?
I experience new roles and tasks every day including loading a train, grading grain, dumping trucks and running a bunker crew. My mentor has been great at letting me try new things every day.

What has been the most exciting or interesting thing you’ve learned so far?
One of the most exciting things I’ve learned is loading a train. From the mixing and blending, driving the LOCO, or actually loading the train. Its so interesting how fast you can load grain out of an elevator in such a short period of time.

What is one thing you have learned in your college education that you’ve been able to apply to your experience this summer?
Being an agribusiness major, I have taken many management classes so actually being able to manage employees has been an experience. I’ve had the opportunity to run a bunker crew, which has taught me so much about effectively managing people while effeciently getting the job done.

What have you gained from your internship experience that you will carry with you in the future?
I've learned how to be more professional in the workforce while learning how to manage people. Being around other employees from different backgrounds has taught me a lot.
